Paul challenged us to eat at his restaurant as he knows we eat out a lot,l refused due to enjoying the company in the bar with Paul and Gwyneth and l explained that if the food was not up to standard we wanted, it would be difficult to go back to social drinking in the bar.
My family came over from France and l decided to try the challenge set up by Paul as he seemed so confident on his food and his enthusiasm was, as ever, up for the challenge of a good meal,We arrived and without doubt had a high quality meal which was above my expectations and my guests(wife is a veggie ) all enjoyed a perfect meal in nice surroundings. Have now eaten there on three more occasions and it still is the best in the area .
Many regards Peter and Sarah

Dear Paul and Gwynneth
Thank you so much for the wonderful few days we spent with you this week. We really felt at home from the first minute! We are deeply appreciative of all your kindness to us. We thoroughly enjoyed the ambiance of the Inn, the excellent freshly cooked food, the great selection of beers and the friendliness of all the staff! Again our profound thanks ……
Kindest regards Lorraine and Pete

Just dropping a quick note,
you kindly did a meal to take away for me last week end - thank you very much for making the effort, it was delicious. I liked the way you improvised the 'take-away' container!! Keep up the good work
Regards John

Good Morning to You Both,
Well we got back to cold weather and some rain but not as cold as in England. What a wonderful time we had with you All at the inn and we will have some very good memories. Is Kia still on the couch dreaming of the next person who will take her for a walk or throw that ball on a string?
The family really enjoyed the family Sunday meal and I had phone calls saying how relaxed they felt and how good the food was. The mothers of the three 3 year olds will not be buying christmas crackers this year though as they are still reeling from the world war 5 that bubbled whilst they fought over the trinkets!!! ha ha - that´s Christmas for you. - The run up to Christmas is so magical especially when you see it through the eyes of the young ones, helping them dress the Christmas tree tree. But, we have not stopped since we have been back.
We picked up Rosie and Ada and that was a joy, and they have been getting back to their familiar places in the house and in the garden. We have had so many cuddles. There were mounds of blankets to wash as they were sleeping virtually outside at the kennels and being ´hot house plants´we had to go armed with warm things including two overcoats for them. Apparently Ada would take her coat off all the time she was there.
One evening I went to support PEPA with their annual concert helping with the raffle tickets. They are a charity for abandoned animals which I helped with when they first started so know quite a few people. Every now and again I get roped in but happy to help. I also won two bottles of wine and some glasses.
Thank you for all your kindnesses and we loved staying with you. I will write and let you have photos of Spain at some time.
We wish you a wonderful Christmas and joyous New Year. .
Love to you All from Brian, Janet, Rosie and Ada xxxx

Dear Gwyneth and Paul,
Thank you for providing such a special evening for us on our 25th Anniversary. We really enjoyed our evening and have been very touched by the many notes that have been forwarded to us from our guests. Amongst the messages are a large number of compliments regarding the food, staff and the music, Mark was very well received and blended in with his music and style. We have been told by a number of our guests that they will be visiting the Inn on the Green again. I don't think there is a better compliment than when repeat visits are promised.
Our very best wishes for the future. Steve and Carol

We visited the Green Rooms last Sunday evening with family, and very much enjoyed their Sunday Lunch Menu. This is available until 8pm on Sundays and consists of a choice of 5 or 6 starters, for mains 4 different roasts (chicken, beef, lamb, pork) plus about another 6 alternatives such as beer battered fish and chips, hawaiian chicken, full or half rack of ribs, ham egg and chips etc and a veggie option, and then a choice of about 5 different desserts. Starters are priced £4-5, mains around £9 and desserts (I noted sticky toffee pudding!) about £4-5 if I recall. We also had a bottle of rose wine for £14.
4 of us ordered garlic butter king prawns for starter, which came as 5 very large king prawns in their shells, served with a chunky slice of brown bread, butter and side salad. The other person had whitebait. All very good both in terms of quality and size of portion. Then the mains came out and these were HUGE! 2 of us had roast dinners (one beef, one lamb) and these were deemed excellent, except for the roast potatoes which came as 2 large whole roasted potatoes and so were a bit hard still. Each roast dinner came with a big side dish containing a selection of nicely cooked veg - which would really have been sufficient for 3 people to share! One person had a full rack of ribs and didn't quite make it through the mammoth plateful, whilst the 80yr old grandmother with us just made it through her half rack which she said were marvelous, but had to abandon her chips in order to do so! I had a lovely piece of beer battered fish but again struggled to eat my chips which also came with a big pile of peas and small side salad.
So with all that, we stood no chance of sampling desserts! Next time we will start with mains and see if we have room for puds, but our advice would definitely be to arrive hungry!
The restaurant was very quiet when we were there, we imagine Sunday lunchtimes would be the more popular time, but we liked the stylish upmarket pub type decor and ambiance and will definitely visit again. Staff were friendly and helpful. There's plenty of space with more seating through into the conservatory area with views onto the garden.
