A garden gym is one of the best investments you can make — no memberships, no commute, no waiting for equipment. We build fully insulated, properly fitted gym buildings that are comfortable to train in year-round. Every build includes rubber flooring, dedicated electrics, and climate control as standard. We can also add mirrored walls, integrated storage, and whatever else your training setup requires.

Most Garden Gyms Don't Need Planning Permission
Under Permitted Development rights, a garden gym is treated the same as any other garden outbuilding. Single storey, within the garden footprint limits, and no taller than 2.5m within 2m of the boundary — and no planning application is needed.
We confirm your position at the free site visit. Listed buildings, conservation areas and national parks may have different requirements — we'll tell you exactly what applies to your property.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size do I need for a garden gym?
It depends on how you train. As a guide: 3×3m works for yoga, stretching and bodyweight training. 4×3m is the sweet spot for most people — enough for a cardio machine, a rack and free weights. 5×4m and above is needed for a full power rack with walk-around clearance, or if you want space for two people training simultaneously. We'll advise at the free site visit based on your equipment list.
Can the floor handle heavy weights?
Yes. We fit heavy-duty rubber tile flooring rated for gym use — it handles the impact of dropped weights and protects the subfloor beneath. Ground screw foundations distribute load evenly and flex with ground movement, unlike a concrete slab which can crack. If you're planning very heavy deadlifts or Olympic lifting, tell us at the design stage and we'll spec the subfloor accordingly.
How do I keep a garden gym cool in summer?
We include a 5kW air conditioning unit as standard in our garden gym spec — it both heats and cools, so you're comfortable year-round. SIPs construction also significantly reduces temperature fluctuation compared to a timber-frame shed, so the air conditioning doesn't have to work nearly as hard.
Does a garden gym need planning permission?
Most garden gyms fall under Permitted Development — the same rules as any other garden room. Single storey, not covering more than 50% of the garden, max 2.5m height within 2m of a boundary. We confirm your position at the free site visit. See our getting started guide for a full rundown.
Can I soundproof a garden gym?
SIPs construction provides excellent acoustic insulation by default — far better than a timber-frame shed. If you're planning heavy lifting with significant impact noise, we can discuss additional acoustic measures. For most gym uses — cardio, free weights, fitness classes — the standard build is more than adequate and your neighbours won't hear a thing.
Can the gym be used for anything else?
Absolutely. Many of our garden gym customers design the space to double up — gym in the morning, yoga or Pilates studio in the evening, or a general multi-use room with easy-clean rubber flooring. With bifold doors and the right lighting, it also works as an entertaining space. We'll help you design around multiple uses if that's what you're after.
