What goes in a garden man cave?
That's entirely up to you. The most common setups: a gaming room (multiple screens, gaming chair, PC rig or console), a sports den (big screen, surround sound, bar fridge, your team's memorabilia), a home bar (counter, bar fridge, seating), a hobby workshop (storage, workbench, good lighting), or some combination of all of them. We build the room around your list — not a template.
What size do I need?
A 3×3m room (9m²) fits a tight setup — one gaming station, a TV and a chair. 4×3m is the most popular choice and gives you room to breathe plus space for friends. If you want a pool table, that needs 5×4m minimum with comfortable cue clearance. We'll lay out your equipment in the space at the site visit so you know exactly what fits.
Do I need planning permission?
Almost certainly not. A garden man cave is an outbuilding like any other — Permitted Development covers single-storey structures within garden footprint limits, with a maximum height of 2.5m within 2m of the boundary. How do I run power and broadband out to the garden?
We run a dedicated armoured cable from your consumer unit to the garden room — properly spec'd for the load, not an extension lead. Broadband can come via a powerline adapter (often adequate) or a dedicated data cable run. We plan both at the design stage. If you're running a serious gaming rig or streaming setup, we'll make sure the data route is capable.
Can I add a toilet or kitchenette?
A kitchenette (sink, mini fridge, microwave) is straightforward — we accommodate the plumbing run from the house and your plumber does the connections. A toilet requires more drainage planning and is less common in a man cave context, but possible where the garden layout allows. We'll advise at the site visit.
What's the best insulation for a man cave?
SIPs construction gives you far better thermal and acoustic insulation than a timber frame build. The solid foam core has no air gaps — which matters both for keeping the room warm and for keeping game and music noise contained. For most man cave uses, the standard SIPs build provides more than adequate sound isolation.
