Ground Screws
Ground screws are hot-dipped galvanised steel helical piles driven directly into the ground using a specialist machine. On most builds, a full set is installed in a single day — no concrete, no excavation, no waiting for anything to cure.
We use 1.25m ground screws for the vast majority of garden room foundations — proven across hundreds of sites in a full range of ground conditions. Heads are fully adjustable for level, and if the building ever needs to move, the screws come out cleanly without a trace.
No Concrete
Nothing permanent left in the ground.
Handles Slopes
Adjustable heads level the platform on any gradient.
One-Day Install
Full foundation done in a single day on most builds.
Consistent Results
We know our screw range and how each length performs. The right size is selected before we arrive — no on-site guesswork, no surprises.
All Ground Conditions
Clay, loam, sand — our ground screws provide reliable bearing capacity across the full range of soils found in South East England gardens.
Right Load for Garden Rooms
Our 1.25m screws are correctly proportioned for most garden room foundations — strong enough, without over-engineering. Longer lengths available for steeper slopes.
How the Installation Works
Mark Out
Screw positions are marked out precisely to the building's footprint.
Drive
The machine drives each 1.25m screw to its full depth — the right length for the vast majority of garden room foundations.
Level
Adjustable heads are set to the same precise level, compensating for ground slope.
Weed Membrane
We lay weed membrane beneath the building to prevent anything growing up from below — and then we're done.
Concrete Pedestals
In most gardens, ground screws are the right choice. The exception is where the ground is already covered by a sound existing concrete slab — a patio, old base or driveway — that's structurally suitable to build on.
In these cases we use concrete pedestals: pre-formed blocks cemented directly to the existing slab surface. We use a laser level to set each pedestal to the correct height, giving us a perfectly level base without any drilling or excavation.
We'll assess the slab condition during the site visit. If it's uneven or not structurally sound, we'll advise accordingly — sometimes that means breaking out a section and using ground screws regardless.
When concrete pedestals are used:
Not Sure What Foundation You Need?
We'll assess your garden and advise during a free site visit. Ground screws suit the vast majority of plots — we'll only suggest an alternative where it's genuinely necessary.
