The Brief
Caroline's garden had no side access. Every SIPs panel, every piece of cladding, every tool and bag of fixings had to come through the front door, through the living room and kitchen, and out through the back. We've worked in gardens like this before — it requires planning, care, and a team that treats the home as carefully as the garden. Not a single scuff.
This compact 2.5×2.5m garden pod is proof that a modest budget and a modest footprint don't have to mean a modest result. Caroline wanted a quiet solo office she could shut the door on at the end of the working day — and that's exactly what she got.
The exterior is Hardie Plank in Arctic White — a fibre cement board that holds a crisp painted finish without the ongoing maintenance of timber. Clean, modern, and low effort. UPVC sliding doors keep the cost down without compromising on the essentials: thermally broken, weathertight, and letting in enough light for a compact space to feel properly bright. Inside: plastered walls, fitted flooring, LED downlights, a double socket and a data point. Everything she needed and nothing she didn't. Caroline was thrilled — and so were we. The no-side-access constraint is the kind of challenge that tests a team's attention to the job. Every member of ours passed.
